Storm causes power outages

As of midnight Tuesday, Duke Energy had reported 2,339 power outages in the Orange County area. As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, there are 45 in Orange County.

A Duke Energy supervisor said he believes the outages were due to the wind and rain Tuesday night. He said Duke Energy hoped to have majority of the outages restored by 2:30 a.m. but it depends on how the weather holds up.

A power outage Tuesday night caused the traffic light at the intersection of Hillsborough Street and East Franklin Street to go out. A traffic signal officer had been dispatched to the scene, Chapel Hill police said.
